Impact Assessment

LEGAL Impact Assessment

NWAC is currently engaged in a multi-year project under the Impact Assessment Act, collaborating with the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC). NWAC’s work focuses on monitoring strategic assessments, conducting Indigenous Gender-based Analysis (IGBA), and engaging with Indigenous grassroots members and experts to ensure Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit Trans, and Gender-Diverse (WG2STGD+) People’s voices are heard. This involvement ensures that environmental, social, economic, and health impacts of projects are inclusive of Indigenous WG2STGD+ People’s perspectives.

The IAAC is responsible for evaluating major projects, assessing their potential impacts beyond just environmental concerns. It aims to develop sustainable projects while considering public and Indigenous insights. NWAC’s role in this framework is crucial for incorporating diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that environmental policies are holistically and equitably shaped. This collaboration is key to fostering inclusive, sustainable development and policymaking.
