What is the RED Path Project?

The RED Path Project (Re-forging Connections, Empowering Indigenous Women to Heal, and Driving Change for a Healthy Future) provides essential health support for incarcerated Indigenous women and gender-diverse people across Canada’s federal institutions.

Through culturally-grounded workshops and resources, we address sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs), healthy relationships, and available supports—creating pathways to better health outcomes during incarceration and after release.

Our approach combines traditional knowledge with evidence-based practices to reduce barriers to care while providing correctional staff with cultural competency training that honors Indigenous experiences and rights.

Each year, our team visits seven federal women’s institutions across Turtle Island, building relationships based on trust and mutual respect. This vital work amplifies the voices of those whose stories must be heard to create lasting systemic change.
