The crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ people represents one of the most urgent human rights issues in Canada today. This ongoing tragedy stems from centuries of systemic discrimination and continues to devastate Indigenous communities across the country.
Women + Two-Spirit
Guardians of Indigenous Traditions
Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people have been central to their communities since time immemorial, holding sacred knowledge, guiding governance, and sustaining cultural continuity across generations.
Today, NWAC honours these traditional roles while addressing the unique challenges and systemic barriers that affect Indigenous gender-diverse communities. Our work in this area spans advocacy, policy development, cultural revitalization, and community-based programming.
The following sections explore our initiatives that protect rights, create opportunities, and amplify the diverse voices of Indigenous women and gender-diverse people across Turtle Island and Inuit Nunangat—celebrating their resilience, wisdom, and continuing leadership in their communities.
MMIWG2S+
NWAC leads evidence-based advocacy, supports families seeking justice, and works to address the root causes of violence through policy reform and community healing initiatives. Our approach honours those lost while creating safer futures for those at risk.

Health & Wellness
Indigenous approaches to health and wellness embrace the holistic connection between physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. For Indigenous women and gender-diverse people, these connections are further shaped by unique cultural contexts and historical experiences.
NWAC advances culturally appropriate health initiatives that address disparities while honouring traditional knowledge systems. Our programs support mental health, maternal care, addiction recovery, and chronic disease management through frameworks that respect Indigenous sovereignty and healing practices.
By combining advocacy for systemic change with community-based wellness programming, we’re working toward health equity that respects the distinct needs of Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.

NWAC’s work is made stronger by organizations, communities, and individuals who stand with Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people. This section offers resources and partnership opportunities to support meaningful allyship and collaborative action.
