• The NWAC ISET Program Overview

  The NWAC Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) program supports Indigenous women in all their diversities including First Nations (status and non-status), Metis, and Inuit on a path toward meaningful training and employment. Whether living on- or off-reserve, in rural or remote communities, or in urban centres, clients can access individualized guidance and supports.

  Through NWAC’s agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada, funding is available to help reduce barriers to skills development and move clients toward sustainable employment.

  The NWAC ISET Program is about empowering Indigenous women to pursue their career goals, strengthen their economic well-being, and create the future they envision for themselves.

  Minimum Eligibility Standards:

  To be eligible for support under the NWAC ISET Program, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Identify as an Indigenous woman in all their diversities (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit);
  • Be unemployed, under-employed, or can demonstrate an immediate risk of being unemployed;
  • Be seeking funding to participate in skills training or employment programming delivered in Canada;
  • Demonstrate that the training supports a Canadian labour-market outcome;
  • Apply to their First Nation, Band, Treaty organization, or Nation where applicable, before the NWAC ISET program can assess an application for funding;
  • Not be in a repayment or default situation under the ISET program or with any other funding program or agency.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible post-secondary program at a publicly funded educational institution. Programs delivered through private colleges are not eligible for funding under the NWAC ISET Program.

  *The minimum standards are the first step in determining eligibility; however, it does not guarantee approval for funding. In addition, applicants must also satisfy all other ISET program requirements and provide any documentation needed for a complete assessment of their request. 

   

• Client Case Management

  All approved clients of the NWAC ISET Program will be supported through a case management approach designed to help them achieve their individual training and employment goals.

  Each applicant is assigned an ISET Case Manager who will complete a detailed assessment of their needs, goals, and eligibility. Once approved for funding, the Case Manager will work closely with the client throughout their entire intervention, providing guidance, monitoring progress, addressing challenges, and connecting them with resources, as needed.

  Ongoing support ensures clients receive individualized assistance to help them achieve meaningful and sustainable success, whatever that may look like for them.
