A message from NWAC President Josie Nepinack:

NWAC Truth and Reconciliation EN (1)

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour Residential School Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and stand with the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of these colonial systems.

Truth is not something we can choose to accept when it is comfortable. At a time when the truths of survivors are being questioned, minimized and denied, we must be clear: reconciliation cannot be built on denial, silence, or inaction.

Canada has a responsibility not only to confront its history, but to address the colonial systems and inequities that continue today. Reconciliation requires accountability, meaningful action, and listening to Indigenous Peoples.

September 30 is a day of remembrance, but our responsibility does not end here. We must carry the truth forward and ensure it leads to lasting change.

Every Child Matters, today and every day.
